Integrity:<\/strong> Rather than working on buildings like the masons of old, today\u2019s Freemasons focus on building themselves as people of integrity, and membership provides the structure to help achieve that goal.<\/p>

Friendship:<\/strong> One of the oldest social organisations in the world, modern Freemasonry is not defined by an ideology. It is open to people from all religions and political persuasions and provides the common foundation for friendships between members, many of which will last for life.<\/p>

Respect:<\/strong> With a membership of more than 3,000 people drawn from communities across Warwickshire and over 150,000 in the UK, modern Freemasonry brings people together irrespective of their race, religion or any other perceived differences that can divide us as a society.<\/p>

Service:<\/strong> Whether participating in events, fundraising for a charitable cause or volunteering for public or community organisations, service is at the very heart of modern Freemasonry. Heritage<\/strong>
St Augustine\u2019s is a friendly Lodge with a proud history spanning over 100 years, having been consecrated in 1914. Taking our name from St Augustine\u2019s Church in Edgbaston, our ethos is built on making Freemasonry fun, enjoyable, productive and caring, while always respecting its core principles and long-standing traditions.<\/p>

We celebrate the diversity of our membership and welcome people of all ages, backgrounds, beliefs and orientations. We believe our strength lies in inclusion, mutual respect, and the fresh ideas brought by our younger Brethren, whom we actively support in their Masonic development and encourage to help shape the future of our Lodge.<\/p>

At the heart of our Lodge is a strong commitment to charity and service. We proudly support a wide range of Masonic and non-Masonic causes, helping both fellow Freemasons and their families, as well as those in need locally and across the country. Freemasons learn to develop enhanced moral and spiritual values. Its members believe that these values represent a way of enabling Freemasons to make a better contribution to the ethics and welfare of the community.<\/p>

Freemasonry, therefore, offers intellectual and social challenges. It brings together and creates lasting friendships among those who might otherwise have remained apart. Its key focus is charity, which enables it to care for its own as well as the wider community.<\/p>

Freemasonry demands a respect for the laws of any country in which its members live and work. Freemasonry has no theological doctrine, offers no sacraments and forbids religious discussion at its meetings. It expects each member to follow his own faith. The discussion of politics is also forbidden at Lodge meetings. All Freemasons are free to acknowledge their membership and, indeed, are encouraged so to do. Its constitutions, rules and ritual are in the public domain and there is no secret about its aims and principles.<\/p>

English Freemasonry dates back to the 17th century. The first Grand Lodge in the world was formed in London in 1717. In 1813 the union of the two Grand Lodges of England, existing at that time, formed the United Grand Lodge of England (UGLE).<\/em><\/p>
