CBN Tooling Ltd is a UK based supplier of advanced cutting tool materials.
We predominantly concentrate on CBN (Cubic Boron Nitride) inserts but both PCD (Poly Crystalline Diamond) and ceramic are also available. A ceramic regrinding service is also offered.
Our goal is to reduce the manufacturing costs of our customers through the correct application of advanced cutting tool materials. This is achieved through the correct programming method, grade selection and advice on cutting speed and feed. This helps maximise tool life, reduce cycle time and so production costs.

High Speed Machining Of Cast Iron
The very high hardness and relative toughness of CBN (Cubic Boron Nitride) makes it an ideal material for both turning and milling of cast iron.
No other cutting tool material can achieve the tool life or parts per cutting edge. The main saving comes from the long periods of constant cutting giving very low downtime.
Mainly used for high production parts in the automotive industry on parts like brake discs, flywheels and cylinder heads cutting speeds over 1,000 m/min are possible.
Hard Part Machining
CBN inserts are capable of producing huge savings in production costs when considered as an alternative to grinding.
With standard ISO CBN inserts it is possible to use conventional lathes and milling machines to machine parts up to 60 Rc hardness. This eliminates the need for the use of expensive grinding machines and wheels.
Set up time is much faster as is cycle time.
Machining Of Steel Mill Rolls
A popular application for CBN inserts is in the steel production industry.
There main use is in both the rough machining and remachining (after use in the mill) of the mill form
rolls. CBN Tooling has a range of inserts specifically for use in this application.
The extreme hardness and high tool life of CBN allows long lengths of roll to be machined eliminating the need for difficult blends. Complex profiles can be produced accurate and efficiently, even in rolls with poor surface condition or fire cracks.
